Our Rock and Fossil Museum is available for visits to schools, organizations, and groups. WE BRING THE MUSEUM TO YOU! We are located in Fremont, CA. If you are out of the area and are interested in a museum visit, give us a call. Maybe we can arrange a "road trip".
The Rock and Fossil Museum is set up much like the Seashell and Ocean Museum with display cases, information boards, posters, activity tables, and a 20 foot long rock cycle wall . I give a short presentation at Geology Camp and then the students are free to explore. At the end of the hour, we will break open a geode outside for the teacher to keep.
The Rock and Fossil Museum includes:
8 rock, mineral, and fossil display cases and storyboards that give information on how and where rocks and fossils are formed and found. In addition, there is a light tablet with slices of agate and UV light box to view fluorescent rocks.
20 foot rock cycle wall is a hand-painted illustration of how the Earth makes and breaks rocks in the mantle, crust, and on the surface. Shows where fossils are made. Main concept: The Earth is always moving and changing rocks with heat, pressure, and weathering.
Students exploring the activity tables which include: observing rocks through a microscope, comparing weight of rocks on a balance, finding the rock that floats, identifying rocks with hardness and streak plate tests, checking magnetic properties of magnetite, putting fossil bones together, uncovering a buried fossil, creating at art tables, and more!
Rock exploration table includes 6 different bins with rough and tumbled rocks and minerals as well as fossils. Children are free to handle all specimens. Magnifying glasses are available on the table.
All visitors can make an arrowhead necklace.
PRICES: For Schools: Rock and Fossil Museum: $150.00 per class
Groups and organizations please call or email for prices.
Each class is given 1 hour in the museum. This allows an uncrowded and relaxed atmosphere for the children. We can usually schedule up to 4 classes per day without changing recess or lunch schedules. We can leave the museum set up for additional days if needed.
Groups and Organizations can schedule hours for visitors to come and go.
We require about 30' x 30' of space to set up. We need two double electric outlets. We have our own tables. However, if the room we are using has tables or desks we will use your furniture as much as possible to minimize furniture moving. We will need time to set up the museum the day before classes visit. After lunch or after school is great.
Please call or email to reserve a date or if you have any questions. We look forward to hearing from you!
